New Grumo: What is Udemy?

You may remember those cool VH1 Pop-Up music videos from the 90’s where info about the making of the video would pop out inside bubbbles as the music video played on TV.
I really enjoyed getting to know random facts about how the video was made so I thought it would be cool to do the same for some of our Grumo videos.
So here there are 10 interesting facts behind the making of this grumo for udemy:

1. The udemy guys like to spell it “udemy” in lower case
2. at 00:25 the instructor in the red thumbnail is me, or rather a cartoon version of me.
3. at 00:26 the course is a real course I teach at udemy!
4. udemy needed this video in less than a week! usually it takes 2 to 3 weeks to produce a demo video.
5. Because we were in such rush I had to get my animator to work overtime during the weekend.
6. I wrote the first script draft in about 11 minutes. Basically they asked me if I could turn around a demo video in a few days and I replied with a finished script 11 minutes later.
7. The final script is almost identical to the original script, surprisingly enough they allowed me to promote my own course as the first example in the video.
8. The only sample course that changed was the one for “learn how to wiggle your feet to the rythm of Salsa”, originally it said “Learn how to masturbate with a melon and a microwave”. They thought some people may have been offended by the visuals attached to that line. I don’t blame them.
9. Udemy thought that the original nerd character was very static so we injected some extra life into it and that’s why he taps his foot at the beginning and wiggles like an idiot at 00:21.
10. Like in most of Grumo demo videos I did the voiceover and all sound effects.
11. I had to redo the voiceover because udemy thought the first take did not sound exciting enough. To motivate myself I asked my wife to flash her perfect breasts at me before the new take. I had a smile throughout the whole script recording and udemy approved the second take! 😉
