Nick Navatta is one of my favourite Grumo Students and just shared a video he created for one of his clients AttendStar.com.
Check the video out, soo cool!
Nick explains a little bit of the process involved in creating this awesome demo video:
How long did it take to put together?
The video, as a whole, took about a month or so. I actually started doing the script, and creating the illustrator files before I had gotten a hold of After Effects. Also, at one point, After Effects crashed and I lost about ten hours of work! So, it was a real learning experience for me-I know what not to do, haha! How did you record the voice over?
The voiceover was recorded by someone that the company I did the video for, Attendstar, had chosen. I am pretty sure he used Audacity and a good microphone. I didn’t have to do much to the voiceover at all, except play around with it a little bit in Adobe Premeire and adjust the volume. Pretty sure the guy who did it was a musician. What was the hardest part?
The hardest part for me was in figuring out how to create the illustrator files in relation to the transitions I planned for the video. What I mean, is that I had to think about what layers I needed to attach to others, what layer went with what layer, and what I wanted to do animation-wise with the illustrator elements as the video was humming along. It seemed like a lot to keep track of-but I got the hang of it.What was the simplest part?
For me, it was the drawing. I love to draw and there is not a lot of stress for me in that area. It was fun. Its remembering all the technical stuff that I have to build up some discipline for!Where did you find the music?
Pond5 per Miguel Hernandez’s recommendation via the Grumo Video course! How did you find about Grumo?
Actually, the company I created this demo video for had seen your Hipmunk video and loved it. I really loved it too, but I was wondering, “Ok-what do I need to do to create a video that is at least somewhat close to how this one is done”. I wasn’t expecting to be able to do one that good for my first video, but I at least wanted to challenge myself to do something good. I followed the trail from that video to the youtube channel and saw the videos about creating your own demo video. Then I jumped to the website and found the help I needed in the Grumo course! What other places online have helped you learn to put together this demo video?
Well, I just kept watching your videos for little tips. Whenver I got stuck, I would just go watch a Grumo video for a little inspiration. Beyond that-I used lynda.com a little bit-but mostly, I just tried to keep it very simple, and just used your course as a guide.
Thanks Nick for sharing this super cool animated promo video and can’t wait to see more work coming from you!
