My Geo Metro is as fast as a Lamborghini

Green Geo Metro 1994 vs. Lamborghini Aventator 2013
Uneven battle? think again my friend.

I have only owned one car in my entire life.
For the last 13 years I’ve driven a 3 cylinder green 1994 Geo Metro.
We paid $5000 for it and now it’s probably worth less than $5 dollars.
It has 218,000 kms. it leaks oil (a lot). Maximum speed is 144 km/hr and it takes about 12 seconds to go from 0 to 100km/hr.
The red check engine light has been on continuously for at least 4 years now.
I’ve neglected this poor little car so much but it refuses to die!

A new Lambo Aventator can reach speeds over 350 kph and accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in less than 3 seconds.
Compared to my wimpy Geo Metro the Aventator has about 12 times more horsepower, 4 times more cylinders, and can accelerate about 4 times faster.
To be about 4 times more of everything costs 80 times more ($5,000 vs $400,000).
I know, my green piece of shit lawn mower is also about 80 times less sexy than a new Aventator.
Which means I would have to work 80 times harder to appear to be as sexy as an Aventator driver.

Oh well, this post is about comparing speeds not car sex appeal, and when talking about speeds, I realized that unless you drive your Lambo on a race track on a regular basis my $5 dollar GEO metro is a fast as a Lamborghini.

You see, whether you drive a Formula One or a 70’s Ford Pinto almost the same speed limits and road contraints apply to all vehicles on this earth.
A rough stimate of the average speed a car travels during its entire operational span is about 60 km/hr. If you live in a big city prone to commuting traffic jams that number is probably even lower.
So unless you constantly break the law the main difference the horse power under your hood will make is how fast you can accelerate into bankruptcy.

Next time I stop at a red light beside an Aventator I’m going to look at the driver, rev up my engine in defiance, and laugh like this:

Conclusion: since no car will take you significantly faster from A to B over its life span, you may as well buy a donkey which is much more environmentally friendly and will draw as much attention as an Aventator (specially if you paint paint him red and attach a big spoiler to his rear).

Here some videos for you to compare them beasts of engineering:

You forget one thing, I paid for the whole speedometer, and I’m going to use the whole speedometer. Now the lambo is faster 🙂
