Grumo Student Demo Video – SagePoint

Richard Wilner needed a demo video to promote his startup SagePoint Sofware an decided to take our Keynote animation course to produced his very own explainer.
Here is the result:

Richard explains how was the process of producing his first animated demo video:

How long did it take to put together?
I estimate about 60 hours, including the time it took me to go through your course.
(Richard provided us with a breakdown of cost and time to create his video [HERE])

How did you record the voice over?
I did it exactly the way you describe in the video, with a heavy blanket over my head and a flashlight. Note that I put the iphone in a portable bench vise to hold it at mouth level while I was talking…I experimented with several positions to find the best sounding location.

What was the hardest part?
The animation, because I had never done it before.

What was the simplest part?
No part was simple, although writing the script came the easiest to me…I think this will depend heavily on the talents of the individual. Some are better writers, some better at drawing…

How did you create the illustrations?
Every illustration you see started as a pencil sketch on a paper storyboard (I created the 16×9 box template with visio), which I then scanned and traced using the pen tool in keynote. I am amazed by the power of this simple tool. Note that I created the storyboard spec because I originally planned to outsource the animation portion, but I found that spec invaluable when doing the animation myself.

Where did you find the music?
I found the music on audiojungle. I found all the sound effects on Pond5,

How did the Grumo course help you?
The Grumo course helped me in every way possible — without it, there was no way I could have created such a high quality and effective piece.

What other places online have helped you learn to put together this demo video?
I didn’t use any other sources, although I used lots of web based help to sort out features and functions in keynote and camtasia.

Richard shared with us the storyboard for this demo video and you can download it [HERE].

Thanks Richard for taking our animation course and much success with SagePoint!
